Mini Christmas Stocking Ornament

This crocheted mini stocking is a great way to use up scrap yard and fill with mini gifts for the holiday season! Stocking measures approximately 6 inches long x 3.5 inches wide – the perfect size for gift cards or cash, with an added candy cane! This pattern is a downsized version of my Petite Party Stocking Pattern! Happy Holidays!

  • MATERIALS:
  • Color A – Caron Simply Soft Party yarn
  • Color B – Caron Simply Soft Party yarn
  • F/3.75mm Crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • STITCHES:                                           
  • Magic Adjustable Loop                                    
  • Ch = chain stitch                                              
  • Sc = single crochet
  • Hdc = half double crochet
  • Dc = double crochet
  • Tr = treble crochet
  • Hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 together
  • Sl st = slip stitch

GAUGE: 5 hdc x 4 rows = 1 inch   Gauge is not critical. Using a larger or smaller hook or different weight of yarn will create a larger or smaller stocking for your preference.

You will crochet the stocking from the toe upward.

ROUND 1: With Color A Make Magic Adjustable Loop, ch 2, hdc 5 more times into loop. Total 6 hdc, including the ch 2. Join with sl st into top of ch 2. Tighten loop.

ROUND 2: ch 2, hdc in same stitch as ch 2.  2 hdc in each of next 5 hdc,. Total 12 hdc, including ch 2 stitch. Join with sl st into top of ch 2.

ROUND 3: ch 2, hdc in same stitch as ch 2, hdc in next stitch.  *2 hdc in next stitch hdc in next stitch *. Repeat from * to * 4 more times. Total of 18 hdc, including ch 2 stitch. Join with sl st into top of ch 2.

ROUND 4: ch 2, hdc in same stitch, 1 hdc into each of next 2 stitches. *2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc into each of next 2 stitches*. Repeat from * to * 4 more times. Total of 24 hdc, including ch 2 stitch. Join with hdc into top of ch 2. Place Stitch marker into hdc.

ROUNDS 5 through 10: hdc in each hdc around. Total of 24 stitches for each round. Move stitch marker up one round each time a round is completed. Working in spiral rounds will minimize the seams in your stocking. After Round 10 only – Do not join in top of stitch with stitch marker. LEAVE STITCH MARKER IN PLACE. Do not move it up.

HEEL:

ROW 1: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog across the very first 2 stitches (begin at base of ch 2), hdc in next stitch, dc in next 3 stitches, hdc in next stitch, hdc2tog.

ROW 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog across the very first 2 stitches (begin at base of ch 2), hdc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, hdc2tog.

ROW 3: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog across the very first 2 stitches (begin at base of ch 2), hdc in next stitch, hdc2tog.

ROW 4: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each of the next stitch. Ch 1, sl st in ends of next 4 heel rows.

Resume stocking tube:

ROUND 11: Hdc into stitch with stitch marker. Move stitch marker up one row. Hdc in next 15 stitches, hdc in each end of next 4 rows, hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, hdc in each of next 4 sl st. Join with hdc in stitch with stitch marker. Move stitch marker up one row. Total of 28 hdc around (adjust to make sure you have 28).

ROUND 12 – 17: Hdc in each hdc around. Join with hdc in stitch with stitch marker. Move stitch marker up one row.

ROUND 18: Hdc in each hdc around. Sl into hdc with stitch marker, remove stitch marker. Join color B.

ROUND 19: Using color B, sc in same stitch. Sc in each hdc around. Join with sl st into first sc. It is important to have an even number of 28 sc stitches at this point!

ROUND 20: Ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch. Tr in next stitch, *sc in next stitch, tr in next stitch*, Repeat from * to * 12 more times. Join with sl st into first sc.

ROUND 21: Ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch, sc in each stitch around. Join with sl st into first sc. Total of 28 sc.

ROUND 22: Ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch. Tr in next stitch, *sc in next stitch, tr in next stitch*, Repeat from * to * 12 more times. Join with sl st into first sc.

ROUND 23: Ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch, sc in each stitch around. Join with sl st into first sc. Total of 28 sc.

HANGER: Prior to fastening off, Ch 12, sc into same sc, sc into next sc. Fasten Off. Weave in loose ends. Trim.
