Granny's Crochet Shoppe & More

This hat was designed to accompany the pattern for my Doll Dress Plain or Ruffled, so it comes with an optional ruffled edge to match the dress with a ruffle. Now that I have been making this set for some time, my favorite yarn to use is Bernat Baby Sport, because it has a stiffer texture which gives added shape (and less stretch or sag) to both the hat and dress. Be sure to embellish with all your favorite ribbons, bows or buttons! ~Granny

NOTE: Different Brands of dolls and different hairstyles may require adjustments to this pattern in terms of hook size, number of stitches or stretch of the yarn.

MATERIALS:
• 3-ply yarn Size 3, such as Bernat Baby Sport, Lion Brand Baby Soft or Ice Cream, Premier Deborah Norville Everyday Baby, etc.
• E / 3.50 mm Crochet Hook, or size to obtain gauge.
• Plastic Yarn Needle

STITCHES: 
• Ch = chain 
• Sc = single Crochet 
• Dc = Double Crochet
• Sl st = slip stitch
• V-Stitch = dc, ch1, dc

GAUGE: 2 inches x 2 inches = 5 rows dc x 8 dc = 5 rows x 4 V-stitches

Round 1: Make Magic Adjustable Loop. Ch 3. crochet 11 dc into the loop. Tighten loop and join with sl st into the top of the ch 3. Total of 12 dc including the ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 11 dc, 1 dc in same stitch as ch 3. Join in with sl st in top of the ch 3. Total of 24 dc, including the ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3, *2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc*. Repeat between * 10 more times. 2 dc in next dc. Join with sl st into the top of the ch 3. Total of 36 dc including the ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc*. Repeat between * 10 more times. 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in the next dc. Join with sl st into the top of the ch 3. Total of 48 dc including the ch 3.
Round 5: Ch 3, dc in back loop only of next dc and in each dc around. Join with sl st into the top of the ch 3. Total of 48 dc including the ch 3.
Rounds 6-8: Ch 3, dc in next dc and in each dc around. Join with sl st into the top of the ch 3. Total of 48 dc including the ch 3.
Round 9: Ch 4, dc into joining stitch at the base of ch 3. V-stitch into next and into each dc around. Join in 3rd ch of beginning ch 4. Total of 48 V-stitches.
Round 10-11: Sl st into ch 1 space, ch 4, dc into same space. V-stitch into ch 1 space of the next V-stitch and into the ch 1 space of each V-stitch around. Join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 4. Total of 48 V-stitches.
Round 12: Ch 1, sc in joining stitch at the base of ch 1. Sc in each dc and space around. Join with sl st. Fasten off OR continue to optional Round 12.
Round 13 (optional): Ch 1, sc in joining stitch at the base of ch 1. Ch 3, sc in next sc, repeat around. Join with sl st in beginning sc. Fasten off.
