Handy Bag — Perfect bag for any age — Granny to Granddaughter!

This is a FREE PATTERN for you to Enjoy!

TRUE CONFESSION —  I kept reaching for my Halloween Treat Bag whenever I needed the perfect bag to carry a small crochet project, Kindle Reader, snacks, small toys for the grandchildren. It started innocently enough., but orange and green reflective yarn was sort of cramping my style.  I tweaked that pattern and came up with an everyday version in the form of this handy bag.  This would be a terrific bag for every age from Grandma to Mom to Daughter to Granddaughter.  PS. I added a flower to my Halloween Treat bag, and my 5-year-old granddaughter LOVES it!

  • 2 skeins Premier Brand Sweet Roll yarn, approximately 150-180* yards per skein needed.
  • K / 6.50 mm Crochet Hook
  • Plastic yarn needle

*NOTE: With conservative use of yarn, it is possible to complete 3 handy bags using 4 Sweet Rolls.

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

Gauge: 6 sc or  6 rows =  2 inches

Completed Dimensions: 11 inches H x 9.5 inches W x 1.25-1.5 inch gusset.

Row 1: Ch 26, sc in back bump of 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Total 25 sc. Ch 1, Turn.

Rows 2-4: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1. Total 25 sc.  Turn — (Do NOT turn after Row 4).

Join with SC into 1st sc of round. Place stitch marker in the last sc made on the side facing you. This marks the front of bag and beginning of round.  Move the marker up as each round is completed.

Rows 6 – 33: Repeat Row 5 twenty-eight more times, moving stitch marker up each time a round is completed. Maintain 58 total stitches for each round.

Row 34: Make sure you moved your stitch marker up and keep it there. Ch 1, sc in same sc and in next 14 stitches (sc # 8 should align to the midpoint at edge of the bag), ch 14, skip 14 sc, sc in next 15 stitches, ch 14, sl st into sc with stitch marker.

Row 35: Ch 1, Sc in same sc and in each sc and ch around. sl st into sl st of previous row.
